History

Having a rich history in wine culture, the Bercy district and more precisely the Cour Saint Emilion are key locations of the capital city.

A true witness of wine business, this area is full of traces of its history.

The Cour Saint-Emilion, named after the Saint-Emilion wines, occupies one of Paris’s historical sites: for over a century, the world’s biggest wine market took place there, as wine makers and merchants were not subject to the French excise duty.

The barrels heading to the capital city arrived by ship on the Seine. The rails used to transport wine to the warehouse are still preserved along the court. Paris Bercy honours that period by offering a fine contemporary alternative.
